SAFC NEWS ROUNDUP

Since the last news roundup we did, Sunderland have been linked with two Leeds youngsters, a former Black Cats striker has scored on his international debut. Plus, there are suggestions that Ross Stewart is unhappy with the most recent contract offer.

LEEDS DUO LINKED

Sunderland are reportedly interested in Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, who has been made available for loan this transfer window. Leeds are willing to send the striker out to gain more first-team experience. It is likely that the 20-year-old will join a Championship club this month, as Swansea City have also been linked with a move for Gelhardt - as well as Wigan Athletic, the club where he began his career.

Defender Charlie Cresswell is currently on loan at Millwall, but reports suggest that his parent club Leeds may be looking to send him to a different club this January. He has struggled to nail down a position in Gary Rowett's starting 11, and Sunderland have reignited their interest in the player despite missing out on him over the summer. Rumours are suggesting there is both loan and permanent interest in the England Under-21.

ASORO ON THE SCORE SHEET

In other news, former SAFC forward Joel Asoro scored on his Sweden debut earlier this week. He scored in the 93rd minute in a friendly against Finland to make it 2-0 and seal the win. Asoro was sold by Sunderland to Swansea following our relegation to League One, but he failed to make an impact in Wales. He's now plying his trade back in Sweden with Djurgårdens IF, where he has scored 16 goals and contributed 10 assists in 71 appearances, including seven goals in this season's Europa Conference League. The pacey striker is still only 23, and has been linked with a move to Ligue 2 side Bordeaux, where he would be reunited with former Sunderland teammate Josh Maja.

STEWART CONTRACT

Finally, Sky Sports reported Keith Downie has revealed that Sunderland have tabled a new contract offer to star man Ross Stewart, but the Loch Ness Drogba is unhappy with the fresh terms. Although he does want to stay at the club, and last week Tony Mowbray said he was confident of Stewart staying, Downie doesn't sound too sure: “I’m told selling him remains a possibility this month. They’ve reached an impasse. As things stand, that’s the offer and it’s not good enough compared to what Stewart and his representatives are looking for. Although he wants to stay at the club, I don’t think he’s too happy with the offer. I think it’s a highly incentivised offer where he has to reach certain milestones or score certain amounts to get the top level figure.”
