MEPHAM ON SAFC LOAN

Following his deadline day loan to us from Bournemouth, Welsh international Chris Mepham has finally touched base at the Academy Of Light and he has explained what he aims to bring to our young side both on and off the pitch.

DELIGHTED

“Delighted to be here, it was a bit of a rush to the end of the transfer window for myself, it got done quite late but it was good to meet the lads in the hotel in Southampton for the Portsmouth game and good to properly come to the training round and get used to the building and seeing all the lads and staff so it’s been a good start.”

BRINGING A CALM HEAD

“A very young team which is amazing to have so many young players playing at this level but with that there might be a little bit of inexperience in the team and I like to think I can bring that experience from having played in World Cup matches, Euro matches and Premier League games. Yeah, I’d like to think I can bring that calm head at times and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the amazing fan base and do great things here.”

BIG CLUB

“Yeah I’ve played here before and the atmosphere is incredible and I think that’s probably why I’ve come here. Big club, big fan base and as a player you want to play in these kind of games and in these atmospheres and like I said, hopefully I can contribute to a successful season and impress.”

BIGGEST STRENGTHS

“A good technical centre back, I don’t want to big myself up too much but I’d like to think I bring calmness on the ball and I compete well, I know from going to the Portsmouth game that anytime there was a big tackle the crowd loved it and I like and relish that side of the game and hopefully the combination of both can work well here. If my experience can kind of help players around me and make their life easier then that’ll be great.”

GOOD START SO FAR

“Yeah I think back to back wins in any league is impressive never mind four in a row, obviously it’s a tough division and I think many teams with amazing squads have shown how tough it can be, credit goes to the players and the staff to have such a good start and now the important thing is to carry that momentum going forward. If we can push and keep with them sort of performances then amazing things can happen and it’s also about controlling when it doesn’t go well, staying calm and hopefully my experience in playing in big games can help the rest of the team. So yeah, really looking forward to it.”
