JOBE BELLINGHAM: WHO ARE YOU?

Sunderland have announced the signing of Jobe Bellingham from Birmingham City, a deal which seems to have been in the pipeline forever.

Despite being just 17, Jobe made 22 Championship appearances for the Blues last season. It’s indicative of his ability that he was trusted to play so often, at such a young age. Of course, the Bellingham name carries a lot of weight these days too. The family name has also created a lot of unnecessary pressure for the young midfielder at Birmingham, hence the coaching staff’s reluctance to throw him in at the deep end and start him too often.

While Jude Bellingham was clearly a world-class talent at such a young age, Brum fans claim to be less enamoured by Jobe’s performances. They see him more as a raw player with big potential, but one who still needs to develop parts of his game. Hopefully that’s where the likes of Mike Dodds, who has close connections to the Bellingham family, and Tony Mowbray come in to help Jobe.

At such a young age, he’s already shown a good ability to compete physically against Championship opposition as well as having excellent composure on the ball. He plays more advanced than his brother, looking to thread that final pass and get involved in attack rather than play more box-to-box.
