DEADLINE DAY UPDATE

Deadline day is always busy and full of news, here’s the latest of all the ongoing events in Wearside.

ROSS STEWART INJURY

It was confirmed on the weekend that Ross suffered an injury to his Achilles which is a massive blow to Sunderland. These injuries can take up to 18 months to fully recover depending on the severity of the damage. It has been revealed that Ross will be out for the rest of the season which is no surprise, but the Scot will be back for pre-season so it could definitely be worse.

EVANS NEW DEAL

Even though his injury will have him out on the sidelines until his current contract runs out, Sunderland have gone ahead and offered Corry Evans a new deal. It is no doubt that when fully fit he is an integral part to this team, not only as the captain but as a calming presence in the midfield. We do also have a clause which we can extend his contract for one year currently, but offering him different terms could tempt him to stay rather than leaving for free.

BAILEY WRIGHT ON THE WAY OUT?

Bailey Wright looks likely to be on his way out of Sunderland, with Rotherham, Hibs and Portsmouth all interested. Of course with Hibs he would be with former boss, Lee Johnson. The least likely would surely be Portsmouth with them being in League One it seems unlikely that the 30 year old would want to take a step down. One other thing to note is that if he does leave then that's another senior head lost within the group at SAFC.
