“Sunderland gave me the opportunity to come and play in the Championship and I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far. When they came forward to talk about a new deal it was the only thing I wanted to do. So, I’m delighted to have signed it and just looking forward to the next season now.”
HONEST ASSESSMENT
“Personally I’ve enjoyed it. We had a great season in my first year, it was disappointing last year but personally I played a lot more games and got to learn a lot more about the club, and got to see their support while the times were tough. It’s just made me want to achieve more with this club and hopefully by aiming for promotion we can give the fans something to cheer about.”
I LIKE IT HERE
“I’ve got a great connection with the fans here, as well as the players and the staff, so trying something new just doesn’t come into my mind. I like it here. I like the area, I like the people, I feel comfortable here and now it’s just about pushing myself, trying to improve myself and hopefully helping the team. There’s been a lot of highs and a lot of lows, loads of memories to be made and hopefully there can be lots of positive ones going forward.”
INJURY REHAB
“It’s going really well. It was just a small thing that probably needed to clear up so that I can play the full season with no issues. I think it was the right decision, there are no real dramas. I might miss the first couple of games but I’m hoping to be back and hopefully get another 40 or 50 games this season.”

“He seems like a brilliant coach. He’s a very clever man and he knows his style of football. He’s been trying to implement that into us now and we’ve got a couple more weeks before the season starts, so I’m sure the boys will be training hard out there with him. He’s an exciting coach and hopefully we can perform well for him when the season starts.”
