Regis Le Bris has praised Eliezer Mayenda after his match-winning brace at Hillsborough, and spoke about how the fringe players are still important even if they haven't played many minutes this season.

BOUNCED BACK

“It was really important to react after two consecutive defeats. I think the players showed good character and showed that they wanted to win. It wasn’t easy because it is not easy to win points here and the pitch was difficult to play good football, but that was the case for both teams. We started well and scored during the first half. After their equaliser it was a little bit difficult because they gained momentum with the crowd. But we were able to contain that dynamic and find a solution to score the second goal. At the end of the game it was a little bit chaotic but with the subs and the new structure at the end, we found a solution to keep the score like that.”

MAYENDA DOUBLE

“It is very important because it is a good example for all the players. He can be on the bench but we trust him, as a player and as a person. When you are in that position and want to play you can be frustrated, but at the same time you know that you will have your opportunities. That was the case this evening. He showed that he can be connected with the team even if he has to wait. For the others it was exactly the same, with Leo for example, he was really important today. For Browney (Alan Browne) after a long injury as well, and even for Jonesy (Harrison Jones) because he played in the Championship this evening. It was only for three or four minutes but I think he was able to win a duel and keep us the ball a little bit later. So, it was important for the team as well.”

FRINGE PLAYERS STILL IMPORTANT

“We need a full squad to be successful in such a long league with 46 games. During the transfer window we had some conversations with some of them, and we said “trust us. You will have opportunities in the team because you have trained well and you are a good player. During the second part of the season everyone will be important” and that was the case this evening.”

300 FOR LUKE

“He is a legend of the club now! I think it was important to win because Luke gives us very strong energy and commitment. He is always connected with the game model and the activity of the team. It is a good example for his young teammates. I think he should enjoy the feature today.”

JONES DEBUT

“Jonesy is one example but we have other examples, they are working well every day. They are very committed and we can feel that they are connected with the team, even if it maybe wasn’t obvious to get minutes earlier in the season. Finally it was possible today. We trust him because we can feel his involvement, his connection every day during the training sessions. We trust him and we are proud of him.”
