BAD NEWS FOR AJI

It has been confirmed that Aji Alese will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg against Stoke in the cup, as well as sustaining a hand injury in the same incident. The 24-year-old will be out of action until the summer but RLB has explained why signing a replacement defender isn't on the top of his list for January.

SURGERY REQUIRED

"He will miss the remainder of the season. We will see him again in pre-season. He has a broken leg. There was also a hand injury but that bone is not broken. Both needed surgery.”

SEELT ABOUT A MONTH AWAY

“Now with Jenson, though he will need some weeks more before he is ready and at his best level."

VERSATILE DEFENCE

“If we are lucky without any other injuries, we are in a good place with our defenders. We would have seven defenders for four positions and they are players that I like. Some of them are versatile and all of them are really involved in every training session, whether they play or don’t play. The team spirit in this part of the pitch is very good.”

In other random news, the ground share rumour between Sunderland and Newcastle, which has been doing the round in the Tyneside gutter press, has been ruled out by SAFC. When quizzed at a fan meet, Sunderland’s David Bruce stated that such scenario “would not be entertained” at the Stadium of Light. We've tagged this onto the end of this article as we didn't believe it was worthy of its own story...
